A 36-year-old man already facing 20 years in prison finds himself in more legal trouble after an intense overnight search ended with his arrest Monday morning, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities say Sherman Lee Bryant, of Okeechobee, robbed a person in Okeechobee County Sunday night, then fled to western Martin County. Bryant was supposed to appear in court Monday to a face a 20-year prison sentence on an unrelated gun charge, the sheriff’s office said.

Instead, authorities found him hiding in a heavily wooded area of Indiantown after a search by multiple agencies, including the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Corrections and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Following his arrest, Bryant was taken to the Martin County Jail on escape charges. He was to be turned over to authorities in Okeechobee County, where he will face additional charges.
