A Royal Palm Beach man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly used an attempted armed robbery as cover to steal a car from a woman, according to an arrest report.
Brandon Madison Wasielewski is facing charges of vehicle theft, fleeing and eluding police and resisting an officer without violence. Wasielewski, 35, is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $6,000 bail.
The victim told West Palm Beach police she was returning to her vehicle — a 2014 Jeep — after using an ATM at 1974 Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard when a man approached her holding a gun, the report said. The woman ran to a friend who was waiting nearby at a stoplight in his vehicle.
The friend drove the woman back to her car. They were approached by Wasielewski, who pointed out the direction the armed robber had fled.
When the woman and her friend went to investigate, Wasielewski jumped in victim’s Jeep and took off, the report said.
The Jeep was spotted on 45 Street and N. Congress Avenue by West Palm Beach police. When an attempt was made to stop the vehicle on Interstate 95 and 45th Street, Wasielewski took off.
Wasielewski crashed the Jeep on 69th Drive North in Jupiter then was run down after a short foot pursuit, the report said.
