A 21-year-old woman approached a woman at a Palm Beach Gardens gas station and asked if she could help find her car keys because she was drunk, according to a city police report. The woman noticed a young child left alone in the backseat of the intoxicated woman’s car and went inside to tell the clerk who called police.
Rontrice Freeman, of North Lauderdale, was arrested Saturday and faces one charge of child abuse. Freeman was released from the Palm Beach County jail Saturday afternoon on $4,500 bail, according to court records.
Just before 1 a.m. officers were called to the Shell gas station on Northlake Boulevard, near North Military Trail, to a child left alone in a car. Police found the 3-year-old girl sitting in the backseat with all the windows closed and the vehicle unlocked.
Officers met with Freeman soon after arriving and noted she was “not taking things seriously,” and laughed when asked if she was concerned about leaving the child alone. Police said Freeman also thought she was in West Palm Beach, not Palm Beach Gardens.
The police report does not indicate if Freeman is the mother of the child.
Freeman does not appear to have any previous arrests in Palm Beach or Broward county, according to court records.
