A Boynton Beach man is facing a criminal charge for allegedly attacking his girlfriend and leaving their 2-month-old daughter under a tree.
City police say Widson St. Fort, 23, and his girlfriend got into a fight Monday afternoon at their Boynton Beach apartment, with St. Fort hitting the woman on the elbow with a lamp. He allegedly later tried to lure the woman from her job at a senior assisted-living center by placing the child under a tree in the facility’s parking lot.
St. Fort called his girlfriend and told her to step outside to get the child, according to an arrest report made public Tuesday. When the woman stepped outside, she saw the child under the tree, as well as St. Fort and another man keeping watch from about 20 feet away.
The report does not specify whether there was any encounter between St. Fort and the woman as she retrieved the child. However, St. Fort and the other man later told police that they personally handed the child to her mother, the report said.
The child appeared to be in good health, police said.
During the investigation, the woman described the fight in the apartment. St. Fort reportedly told investigators his girlfriend started the argument because she was angry that he was having conversations with a woman at his job.
He said his girlfriend attacked him and he denied that he struck her with anything, police said. Officers found that the woman’s injuries were consistent with her statement and determined that St. Fort was the primary aggressor.
He was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with a weapon. He was released from the Palm Beach County Jail on his own recognizance Tuesday.
