North Palm police: ‘Sweaty’ men charged with stealing tools

Two sweaty Miami men are behind bars after a North Palm Beach police officer spotted them late Thursday in the parking lot of a tool rental company on Alternate State Road A1A with nearly $8,000 worth of tools nearby.

The officer asked Alton B. Manor and Draq’uan Q. Gerald if they were OK, because the Miami men were “sweating profusely” and out of breath, according to a police report.

Manor, 49, and Gerald, 27, were near a running Ford box truck and didn’t respond. Another car in the lot of Aldrich Tool Rental sped away onto Alternate A1A, police said.

The lock to the driver’s side door of the truck was punched out, according to police, as was the ignition to the steering column. Police say the truck was stolen from Margate in Broward County.

The officer found bolt cutters and a torch – or as police called them “burglary tools” – in the back of the truck. About 1,000 feet away were $7,700 worth of tools belonging to Aldrich Tool Rental.

Manor and Gerald were arrested on charges of vehicle theft, burglary and grand theft.
