Andrew Melendez-Gonzalez never thought he would get caught for having sex with a minor and filming it, but after he shared the videos on social media and threatened the minor and her family, the Loxahatchee teen is sitting in jail, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Melendez-Gonzalez, 18, was arrested Thursday morning and is now being held in jail on two counts of distributing pornography of a minor, four counts of traveling to meet a minor, one count of aggravated stalking, and one count of written threat to kill or injury, according to court records.
Melendez-Gonzalez met the 15-year-old girl from Orange County over the social media app Kik in November 2014. The two dated on and off for over a year and they visited each other about six times throughout the time they were dating. They were sexually active, and without the victim knowing, Melendez-Gonzalez took videos of the acts, and would save photos and videos that the victim would send him, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
When the victim’s mother caught word of the relationship, she called it off, forbidding Melendez-Gonzalez from talking to her daughter. The victim told the Orange County Sheriff’s Office that the 18-year-old had been verbally abusive throughout the relationship, threatening to rape and kill her or members of her family.
Melendez-Gonzalez became angry that he could no longer talk to the victim and tried to reach out to her and her mother through Facebook. He threatened to share the nude photographs and videos he had over social media. He then sent her mother photos of her child, threatening the same.
“Can you ask [your daughter] if we still together or not because eim tired of waiting and tired of texting yio,” read one of the messages from Melendez-Gonzalez to the victim’s mother. “I suggest you ask her you dumb fat (expletive) before I get a man to kill you stupid fat (expletive). I really don’t want to have to send nudes to the whole family but okay you give me no choice since you don’t answer.”
The 18-year-old began posting the videos and photos to Instagram, a social media app used to share photos.
The mother reached out to both Andrew and his grandmother to stop the harassment to no avail. The victim told investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office that “she and her family were in constant fear that (Melendez-Gonzalez) would attempt to physically harm them and continue to threaten them and post more pornographic images and videos,” the arrest report reads.
The investigators received a search warrant on Thursday morning, and when they arrived at Melendez-Gonzalez’s home, they confronted him. He admitting to knowing the victim was a minor but said that he did not care as he did not think he would ever get caught, according to the arrest report. He also admitted to traveling to meet the victim, having sexual relations with her and admitted to taking photos and videos of the girl without her knowledge and sending the to her mother out of anger that she ended the relationship.
The investigation spanned the course of two months and involved the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
