PBSO: Royal Palm man says older woman ‘possessed by demons,’ tries to strangle her

A Royal Palm Beach man faces battery charges after trying to strangle an older woman he claimed was “possessed by demons,” according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 2 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a home where an unidentified woman said Zachary Borden, 37, choked her and held her to the ground. She told officers that Borden said to her she “was possessed by demons and that he wanted her dead,” the arrest report states.

She said Borden allegedly broke her walking cane so she couldn’t leave the house, but eventually helped her up. The victim said she then went outside to a neighbor’s house to call police.

When police spoke to Borden, he said he could not remember anything except for breaking a lamp, but then recalled pushing the victim on the shoulders but “did not choke or hold anyone on the ground,” the report states.

Borden was arrested on charges of domestic battery on a person 65-years or older, false imprisonment and battery by strangulation. He is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail, with his bail set at $6,000.
