An inmate at the Palm Beach County Jail removed his clothes and tried to sexually assault a female corrections officer in late March, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Xavier Gaskin, 22, was expected to appear in court Monday morning for a bond hearing, but he was not present.
Gaskin was in the county jail, off Gun Club Road in suburban West Palm Beach, awaiting trial for a trespassing charge brought forward March 26. Two days after he was jailed, he followed a female corrections officer into a broom closet, where she was grabbing cleaning supplies, the arrest report says.
The officer heard a noise and opened the door to the closet and saw Gaskin with his pants down, “fully exposed,” the sheriff’s office says. He lunged at the officer, tried to forcefully push her into the closet and attempted to grab her breast, she told investigators.
He told her: “Shh, let’s go back in there,” according to the report. She was terrified, she told investigators.
She was able to push him to the ground and yelled for help. Another corrections deputy handcuffed and moved Gaskin into another area.
Gaskin admitted to trying to open the closet, but denied exposing himself. He told police he likes women, but would never force himself onto them, according to the report.
Gaskin faces new charges of attempted sexual battery, false imprisonment, battery on a law enforcement officer and indecent exposure. He remains in county jail as of Monday afternoon.
