A tight-knit community was rocked Wednesday by news that Mixed Martial Arts fighter Jordan Parsons, 25, died in the hospital following a hit-and-run crash in Delray Beach.
Parsons, a Bellator featherweight, had his right leg amputated and was comatose after he was struck Sunday morning by a 2012 or 2013 silver Range Rover at the intersection of Federal Highway and Lindell Boulevard. The driver of the damaged Range Rover has yet to be caught.
Parsons was prepping for a bout in Bellator 154 on May 14, said manager Glenn Robinson.
Fans, friends and fellow fighters have poured support for Parsons and his family into social media and a GoFundMe account, which has amassed an impressive $35,000 in just three days.
Meanwhile, the MMA world has turned to Twitter and Instagram to mourn the fallen talent.
The infamous Iron stain @prettyboymma_jp left when he was staying with @mscarrie_eliz and I while we were away for my @bellatormma fight in Chicago. I came back and was so pissed and he blamed it on the dog lol. Now it's a sad reminder of him. This still feels unreal. Love you Jordan, you will be dearly missed #jordanparsons #prettyboyparsons
Some big-name professional mixed martial artists have also spoken out in support.
Delray Beach Police are asking anyone with information on the crash or vehicle to contact Officer Dan Cramer at (561) 243-7800 or to report anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at (800) 458-TIPS, online at http://www.crimestopperspbc.com or by texting email@example.com.
