A 35-year-old woman is in jail after West Palm Beach police say she cut her roommate’s face with a box cutter in a halfway house on Monday.
Laini Thompson remains in the Palm Beach County jail on $5,000 on one charge of aggravated battery.
During her first appearance Tuesday morning, Judge Joseph Marx told Thompson she was lucky, because if the box cutter had sliced an inch lower to the man’s neck, he could have died and she would be facing a homicide charge.
“You’re a lucky, lucky lady right now,” Marx said.
On Monday, police were called to a halfway house on the 3400 block of Westview Avenue, south of 45th Street and east of North Australian Avenue, where they found a 20-year-old man with cuts to his face.
The man told police he got into a verbal argument over a lighter with Thompson. Other roommates were able to initially calm the situation down, but the pair continued fighting. The 20-year-old said Thompson became violent and attempted to punch him, then pulled out a box cutter and slashed him across his face, according to the report.
Police noted a six-inch cut from the man’s ear to his mouth that was about a half of an inch deep.
When police went to speak with Thompson, she pointed a small red knife at the officer and asked where the man was.
Soon after, Thompson was arrested. Thompson does not have any criminal background in Palm Beach County.
