A man is accused of wrapping a belt around a woman’s neck and violently beating — breaking three ribs — and sexually battering her Sunday near West Palm Beach, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Franklin Mari Urbina, 53, faces charges of aggravated battery and sexual battery.
Urbina, who has no local address, let the woman sleep in his Volkswagen for three days, according to his arrest report. On Sunday, Urbina and the woman were drinking at a gas station when Urbina repeatedly solicited sexual favors from the woman.
When she refused, he took off his belt and hit her in the face with the buckle, the report says. It caused a cut above her eye. He took off his shirt and wiped her blood with it, detectives say.
He then wrapped the belt around her neck until she couldn’t breathe, according to the report. Urbina climbed on top of the woman, pulled her pants off and attempted to sexually batter her, she told investigators.
He then kicked and punched her all over her body, tried to stab her in the leg and bit her, the report says. She waited for Urbina to fall asleep and contacted the police.
The woman had three fractured ribs, several bruises on her face, arms and legs and was bleeding from her left eye, detectives say.
Urbina initially denied hanging out with the woman or having any sexual contact with her. Detectives showed him the bloody shirt and he admitted they were hanging out and drinking, the report says.
He told detectives that the woman’s injuries happened when she fell down.
Urbina was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail where he is being held without bond. Records show Urbina has been arrested in domestic battery cases four times since 2015.
Charges were dropped in all but one case, which led to a conviction and a two-month sentence.
