A Boca Raton man is facing several DUI charges following a November crash that left several people injured, including two seriously, according to an arrest report.
Michael Rubel was allegedly under the influence of substances that included the drug Ecstasy and alcohol when he slammed his Lexus into a Toyota Sequoia occupied by a driver and five passengers. The crash took place Nov. 28 at 2401 S. Federal Highway in Boca Raton.
Immediately after the crash, two Broward County Sheriff’s deputies responded and allegedly heard Rubel speaking on the phone and using an expletive to say he was intoxicated, the report said. Rubel, who had to be extricated from his vehicle, also allegedly told staff at Delray Medical Center that he had been drinking before the crash and had ingested drugs.
All six people in the Toyota sustained injuries, the report said. One of the passengers is the Toyota underwent surgery for a broken clavicle and another passenger sustained serious elbow and wrist injuries that required surgery.
The results of Rubel’s toxicology report are redacted in the arrest report submitted by Boca Raton police.
Rubel is facing four counts of DUI causing property damage, two counts of DUI causing serious bodily injury and one count of driving with a suspended license.
