A Florida Atlantic University student was arrested Monday evening after campus police say he choked his girlfriend until she passed out, according to an arrest report.

Blake A. Erwin, 21, faces a battery by strangulation charge. The incident happened Friday night on campus, police say. Erwin and the woman were arguing when Erwin put her in a “choke hold” and threw her to the floor, the arrest report says.

She passed out, then later woke up and reported the incident to police.

She was crying hysterically and had scratches and bruises on her arm and neck, investigators say. She initially refused to name Erwin when she filed a report, but police later learned Erwin’s name.

According to Erwin’s Facebook page, he is studying mechanical engineering at FAU’s Boca Raton campus. Blake has no criminal record in Palm Beach or Broward counties other than one traffic infraction, court records show.

He was released from the Palm Beach County Jail on Tuesday afternoon after on $2,000 bond.
