West Palm police: Man, 82, attacks visitor with machete

Elpidio De Leon Pimentel

An 82-year-old West Palm Beach man attacked a 42-year-old man with a machete during an argument Sunday night, West Palm police say.

When an officer showed up at an apartment on Southern Boulevard near Lake Avenue, he saw Elpidio De Leon Pimentel, 82, holding a machete and trying to attack a man, the arrest report said. Pimentel put down the machete upon the officer’s command.

The 42-year-old man told police he came to the apartment to visit Pimentel and two other older residents. Pimentel left briefly and returned, apparently drunk, the man told officers.

They got into an argument and Pimentel pulled out a 2-foot-long machete with a black handle and struck the 42-year-old on the head, police said.

The 42-year-old man originally told police he didn’t want to prosecute, but changed his mind after Pimentel kept threatening him while police were present, the report said.

Pimentel faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was released from the Palm Beach County Jail after posting $5,000 bond.
