The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is alleging a Lake Worth area man with a recent history of run-ins with deputies beat and robbed an acquaintance who was sleeping on a park bench this month.
Mikhail Viktorovich Mushtyats, 33, and a woman whom officers identified but did not arrest spotted a man asleep on a bench March 8 in Northwest Park in Lake Worth, near 22nd Avenue North and North D Street, the arrest report said. The three of them had spent time together earlier that night, the report said.
The victim told sheriff’s deputies that Mushtyats and the woman grabbed the man, beat him with closed fists and choked him. They took $250 and a cellphone from his front pockets.
When deputies interviewed the victim, he was bleeding from the mouth and nose, the report said.
Police didn’t find Mushtyats until Saturday, when he was arrested on an armed robbery charge.
Mushtyats has an open case stemming from a stalking allegation in February. He was arrested for banging on the windows and doors of his ex-girlfriend’s home on Valentine’s Day, after allegedly stalking her for weeks.
Mushtyats was released from jail the following day under court supervision.
He landed back in jail March 7, one day before the alleged robbery, for violating court-ordered supervised release, court records show.
As of Tuesday evening, he remained in the Palm Beach County Jail on the armed robbery charge with bond set at $20,000.
