A 42-year-old Boynton Beach man wearing only a towel wandered around the Marriott Hotel in Delray Beach until he pulled the fire alarm and said he wanted a ride home, city police said in a report made public Monday.

“I needed the police,” Michael John Delaar said just after pulling the alarm just before 4:45 a.m., the report says.

The lights were flashing and several people had to evacuate the beachfront hotel just north of Atlantic Avenue, the report said.

Police were sent to the hotel because Delaar was reported to be walking around the lobby in the towel and asking for a room, the report said. When they asked Delaar why he pulled the alarm, he said he needed a ride home.

Delaar, who faces a fire-alarm misuse charge, was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail and released later that day.
