Two Broward County residents were arrested for their alleged roles in an armed robbery near a Boca Raton library last weekend, city police said Friday.
Keon Cunnington, 20, and a 17-year-old boy, both of Lauderhill, are accused of robbing three people the night of Feb. 27 in the downtown library parking lot on Northwest 2nd Avenue. Police say the suspects also stole two hover boards in Ocean Ridge earlier that day.
The Palm Beach Post does not identify minors accused of crimes unless they are charged as an adult.
The robbery victims told police they were walking to their car from a restaurant when they saw two young men riding hover boards nearby. According to police, the two approached the car moments later and grabbed the backpack of a woman who was seated in the front passenger seat.
The robbers unsuccessfully tried to take a purse from one woman and a wallet from another before fleeing the scene in a Honda, police said.
The pair allegedly found a credit card in the stolen backpack and used it at a Wal-Mart store in Delray Beach. Detectives traced the Honda to the 17-year-old’s address in Lauderhill. There, they met with the teen and the teen’s father.
Fingerprints linked both Cunnington and the teen to the robbery, police said.
