A Jupiter man faces several charges after he told the State Attorney’s Office that he downloaded more than 1,000 child pornography files in the last year, an arrest report says.

Matthew Paul Jacobson, 32, remained in the Palm Beach County Jail on Thursday following his arrest Tuesday morning. A judge set bond at $40,000 for 20 possession of child pornography charges.

The State Attorney’s Office had been investigating Jacobson since early February, the report says. Using an online law enforcement database, they found he downloaded a lewd photograph of an 8-year-old girl, then launched an investigation.

Jacobson told investigators “only uses (his) desktop at home to download child pornography,” an arrest report says.

After they seized his computer, Jacobson told investigators that he downloaded more than 1,000 child pornography files using peer-to-peer software.

He said he watches the child pornography “for the sexual nature of the videos,” but denied ever touching a child, the report says.

He had been downloading the child pornography for nearly a year and his wife never knew about it, he told investigators.
