A St. Lucie County man was sentenced to 75 months in prison Tuesday for receiving and possessing child pornography.

Richard Joseph Ahearn, 56, of Fort Pierce, was sentenced by Judge Robin L. Rosenberg after he previously pleaded guilty to one count of receiving child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography. His prison term is to be followed by 10 years of supervised release and he will have to register as a sex offender, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Ahearn previously was employed as an Information Technology professional with the St. Lucie County Tax Collector’s Office. According to court documents, the Yahoo! internet search engine company reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children several suspected child pornography images associated with an account from the image and video hosting website Flickr.

The Flickr account was linked to Ahearn’s address in Fort Pierce, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. Investigators obtained a federal search warrant. A subsequent search of Ahearn’s computer revealed images of sexually explicit conduct involving minors, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
