A Mangonia Park man whose 7-year-old son was wounded this summer in an accidental shooting was arrested Wednesday.

Gabriel Brown, 29, was arrested on a warrant for culpable negligence, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said. His arrest stems from a July 10 shooting at the Hampton Court Apartments in Mangonia Park. Authorities say a 6-year-old boy got a hold of a .40-caliber handgun and accidentally shot his 7-year-old brother.

Brown told investigators at the time that he arrived home just after the incident and rushed his wounded son to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach. The boys were at home with their mother and their younger sister when the accidental shooting occurred, investigators said.

Brown reportedly admitted that the handgun belonged to him. The sheriff’s office and Department of Children and Families investigated the shooting before turning their findings over to the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office.

Brown is expected to make his first appearance before a judge on Thursday morning.
